Try not to wince at the horrifying sight of this egg sack teeming with tiny spiders

Spiders on their own are disconcerting enough. So how about a sack full of tiny little crawling spiders?

A video of a funnel web egg being cut open to reveal hundreds of the insects inside was posted on the Facebook page of the Australian Reptile Park on Sunday.

The park acknowledged it’s the “stuff of nightmares” for some people in its post, but said it loves these finds.

7 new spider species get their names from ‘Game of Thrones’ and other hits

Varys from Game of Thrones. Shelob from Lord of the Rings. And, of course, Charlotte.

They can all be found in caves in Pará, a state in northern Brazil. There, scientists discovered seven new species — and named them all after spiders in pop culture.

No, none of them eat hobbits, or befriend curious piglets. But these six-eyed spiders are still pretty cool. Even though they live in caves, they haven’t lost their pigmentation or all of their eyes. (Most spiders, BTW, have eight eyes.) Some of them were even discovered outside of caves.  Read more…

Kids’ cartoon pulled twice in Australia for its message about spiders

British kids’ cartoon Peppa Pig isn’t normally a show you’d associate with controversy — but in Australia it’s a whole different story.

An episode of the show that revolves around Peppa discovering a spider in the sink — the brilliantly named “Mr Skinny Legs” — has now been pulled from Australian TV not once, but twice.

SEE ALSO: Who knew drawing Peppa Pig could be so NSFW?

The episode has drummed up controversy because of its implication that spiders are harmless.

“There’s no need to be afraid, Peppa,” says Daddy Pig at one point in the episode. “Spiders are very, very small, and they can’t hurt you.” Read more…

Live TV reporter acts perfectly calm as spider casually crawls all over her

Though this skin-crawling sight might be hard to miss, don’t let it fool you into believing that TV reporting is an easy job.

Good Day Fox 4 posted the clip of Murray to Facebook on Wednesday. Murray was doing a report on protests at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport when the whole thing went down.

After the report, someone on Facebook let Murray known that she had unknowingly survived the stuff of nightmares. This might be why they say “ignorance is bliss.”  Read more…

Woman finds live spider in her ear after complaining of a headache

TwitterFacebook

Doctors discovered that the source of a woman’s headache was A LIVE SPIDER INSIDE HER EAR.

While we can probably all relate to hopping on WebMD and discovering the worst possible outcome to an ailment, a live spider probably isn’t even on the list.

According to SWNS, a 49-year-old woman awoke from a nap with a slight tingling sensation inside her ear. The woman considered she had something in her ear, so she tried to get it out using her fingers, but she was unsuccessful. Eventually the woman developed an “excruciating pain” inside her head, so she was rushed to the Columbia Asia Hospital in Hebbal, India, where a doctor discovered there was A LIVE SPIDER INSIDE HER EAR.  Read more…
