‘EastEnders’ Spoilers: Jean Slater And Big Mo Confirmed To Return Alongside Kat Slater

‘EastEnders’ bosses have confirmed that Kat Slater will return to the soap in the coming months, revealing that two other fan favourites will be back alongside her – while her immediate family will remain off-screen.

Jessie Wallace’s much-loved character will be return from the Irish town of Redwater in the Spring, with Big Mo and Jean Slater accompanying her.

Teasing their return, the soap’s executive consultant John Yorke said: “The Slaters are one of the all-time great families in ‘EastEnders’ and Albert Square has never felt quite the same since they scattered to different ends of the country, and in some cases beyond.

“It has been a real joy to find a way to bring them back together and we’re incredibly excited about where we are taking them next.

“It won’t just be familiar Slaters either as there are a couple of twists and characters to add fresh spice to an iconic creation.”

Jessie Wallace added: “I am thrilled to be returning to EastEnders next year and knowing what John Yorke has in store for the Slaters is incredibly exciting.

“I love Kat and Walford dearly and I cannot wait to get started – watch out Walford Kat’s coming home.”

Viewers will have to wait until the women are on screen to find out why Kat’s husband, Alfie, and their children are not in tow.

The duo were last seen fighting for their life in the Irish sea, during the final episode of ill-fated spin-off ‘Redwater’, which (unsurprisingly) will not be returning for a second series.

Together with her family, the character first departed in back in May 2015 and her search for her long-lost son formed the basis of the drama.

Addressing her return, Laila Morse said: “I’m really excited to be coming back. It’s the one question I’m constantly asked.

“I can’t wait to see everyone and get stuck back into life in Walford.”

“I am delighted the Slater women are to be reunited once more,” Gillian Wright, who plays Jean, added. “I have always adored working alongside Lacey [Turner], Jessie and Laila and I am looking forward to being reacquainted with everyone at ‘EastEnders’ again.”

16 Miserable Soap Christmases From ‘EastEnders’ And ‘Coronation Street’ To ‘Emmerdale’ And ‘Hollyoaks’

Christmas is a time to be around loved ones, reflect on the year that’s coming to an end, and soak up as much festive cheer as possible.

Unless you’re in a soap, that is. In which case it means you end your miserable year in a dramatic and completely depressing fashion, whether it’s through family rows, tears or – on some occasions- disasters that affect an entire community.

While it doesn’t exactly put a smile on our faces, it does make us feel better about our family squabbles over who gets the biggest slice of turkey.

Here are 16 of the most miserable Christmases that Soapland has ever given us…

‘EastEnders’ – Den Tells Angie He Wants A Divorce

The definitive Christmas shocker from the world of soap, Angie was shocked when she was given an extremely unwanted gift from her husband, Dirty Den – divorce papers.

‘Hollyoaks’ – Dawn Dies

Dawn’s death from leukemia proved to be a particularly sad moment in the early years of ‘Hollyoaks’, particularly as it came when her best friend, Jambo, had hired a rowing boat especially to propose marriage to her.

‘Coronation Street’ – Deirdre Barlow Confronts Ken About His Affair

It was in 1989 that Deirdre delivered the immortal line: ‘I want to know where you’ve been… and who with.’

‘EastEnders’ – Janine Stabs Herself In The Stomach

As you tuck into your After Eights and suddenly remember you’ve been wearing a paper crown since midday, what else could you possibly want to watch on TV but a lady stabbing herself in the stomach, in a bid to frame her neighbour for attempted murder?

‘Coronation Street’ – Richard Hillman Plots To Kill Emily Bishop

When Richard Hillman decided that the death of soap favourite Emily Bishop could solve his financial woes, he attempted to smother her with a cushion while she took a Christmas Day nap.

Fortunately, Rita dropped by and threw his plans into disarray. He managed to fool his neighbours for a little while longer, before his own death the following year…

‘EastEnders’ – Trevor Unleashes Abuse On Little Mo

In one of the soap’s more troubling storylines, Little Mo found herself on the receiving end of physical abuse from her husband, Trevor.

When she arrived late for her Christmas dinner, it unleashed one of his violent outbursts, which included him grabbing her by her hair and pushing her face into her food.

‘Coronation Street’ – Sally Webster Reveals She Has Breast Cancer

The revelation that Sally was suffering from breast cancer was twice as emotional for viewers, as what the character didn’t realise was that her husband, Kevin, had initially sat her down to tell her that he was having an affair with their neighbour, and his co-worker’s Tyrone Dobbs’ wife, Molly.

‘EastEnders’ – Jamie Mitchell Is Killed, Following A Car Accident

During one of the most upsetting Christmas scenes in ‘EastEnders’ history, soap heatthrob Jamie Mitchell was hospitalised after being run over on Christmas Day, eventually dying in the arms of his love, Sonia Fowler.

‘Coronation Street’ – Goodbye To Hilda Ogden

True, Hilda’s departure doesn’t quite measure up the more hard-hitting soap scenes from around the festive season, but saying goodbye to an iconic ‘Corrie’ character on Christmas Eve still gets us a bit teary-eyed, particularly as the character reflected on life with her late husband, before treating viewers to one last song.

‘EastEnders’ – Pauline Fowler Dies In The Square

Pauline’s death was one of the most tear-jerking in soap history, with her son discovering her body out in the snow. The fact it coincided with Christmas just made it all the more poignant.

‘Emmerdale’ – The Plane Crash

On New Year’s Eve in 1993, ‘Emmerdale’ pulled off one of the biggest stunts in UK soap history, earning the show its highest viewing figures ever, when the ‘Beckindale Air Disaster’ struck the Dales.

Four characters were killed off in the incident, which was watched by a whopping 18 million people.

‘EastEnders’ – Ronnie And Roxy Die

This double-death was a shocker over the festive season in 2016, and not exactly a happy way to end the year for the Mitchell family, who’d already had a pretty tough 12 months.

But it wasn’t just the residents of Walford who were left reeling, with many viewers left bemused with then-producer Sean O’Connor too. He left the show months later, after facing criticism for a number of decisions he made during his tenure in charge.

‘Coronation Street’: Tracy And Karen Come To Blows On The Roof

After Tracy Barlow was led to believe that Karen had harmed her daughter, Amy, the two had a dramatic showdown on the roof of the Underworld factory.

This scene was among Suranne Jones’s last, as her character departed on Boxing Day that year.

‘Emmerdale’ – Tom King Is Murdered

Nothing says ‘ding dong merrily on high’ quite like a murder plot, right? In 2006, the ‘Emmerdale’ Christmas special should have been a joyous occasion, but it ended in tragedy, when Tom King was killed on his wedding day.

‘EastEnders’: Mark Discloses His HIV Status

In what was a risky storyline for ‘EastEnders’, particularly given the time it aired, Mark disclosed to his parents that he was living with HIV, in this emotional and hard-hitting scene.

‘Coronation Street’: The Residents Deal With The Aftermath Of The Tram Crash

2010 was a particularly difficult year for the residents of ‘Coronation Street’, given the tram crash that had torn the cobbles apart weeks earlier.

Both Tyrone and Claire were dealing with the loss of their spouses, as this moving montage reveals. ‘Corrie’ being ‘Corrie’, though, it wouldn’t be complete without a camp (though still thoroughly depressing) musical number from Rita. Merry Christmas, one and all.

‘EastEnders’ Christmas Spoilers Laid Bare In Explosive Max Branning Trailer

‘EastEnders’ has unveiled a brand new trailer revealing the explosive drama ahead in their Christmas episodes.

Viewers already know this year’s festivities revolve around the downfall of Max Branning, but the new promo shows how he will go head-to-head with Phil Mitchell and Ian Beale.

The dramatic advert shows Ian bloodied, Max going on the rampage in the Vic and fighting in the street, before Phil warns him “it is over”.

We also see the voicemail Jane Beale left for Stacey Fowler come to light, before Stacey – Max’s last remaining ally – completely loses it with him.

However, there could be redemption for Max, as he tearfully admits “there’s like a virus in his head that’s made him do all these things”.

Over the last few weeks, fans of the BBC soap have seen Max’s revenge plan against the people of Walford exposed to them.

However, he found himself outcast by his conspirators from Weyland and Co., leaving him to continue his vengeance for his wrongful imprisonment for Lucy Beale’s murder, alone.

Earlier this week, Jake Wood, who plays Max, promised viewers the best Christmas episodes in at least 12 years.

Speaking on ‘This Morning’, he said: “There’s stuff coming up next week – just incredible episodes from now until Christmas.

“We’ve got back this incredible storytelling team and the next couple weeks are crazy.

“The two episodes that go out, they’re the best I’ve read in my time on the show – and I’ve been there 12 years.”

The Christmas Day episode of ‘EastEnders’ airs at 9pm on BBC One.

‘Emmerdale’ Christmas Spoilers 2017: Robron Special Plan Revealed

‘Emmerdale’ fans have been given an early Christmas present, in the form of details about what to expect from this year’s festive special.

The episode was previously teased by soap boss Iain MacLeod back in September, but the full plans have now been unveiled – and Robron fans won’t be dissapointed.

In a move away from traditional storytelling, the Christmas Day episode will be a standalone one, with a storyline that Iain describes teases as ”‘Groundhog Day’ meets ‘A Christmas Carol’ with a little nod to the film ‘Don’t Look Now’ thrown in”.

The show will see Robert Sugden wake up multiple times on Christmas morning, facing a different reality each time.

“Why can’t he escape from this perpetual nightmare?” bosses have teased. “And how will his estrangement from the real love of his life, Aaron, played by Danny Miller, manifest itself?”

Explaining the reasoning behind the plans, Iain said: “It’s been amazing to produce as we’re constantly thinking of ways to push the boundaries of storytelling and keep ‘Emmerdale’ fresh and our loyal viewers on their toes.

“Apart from the scary aspect to Robert’s situation, the episode is also heartfelt and hilarious in parts,” Iain continued. “Christmas wouldn’t be the same without a healthy dose of the Dingles and a comedy cameo which we hope will please our viewers.

“Watch out for the ghost of Christmas Future as you might recognise them!”

Elsewhere in Soapland, ‘EastEnders’ have big plans for the festive season with Max Branning taking centre stage as his world comes crashing down around him.

In ‘Coronation Street’, the residents of Weatherfield will welcome back a much-loved familiar face.

‘Coronation Street’: Carla Connor Return Details Revealed Ahead Of Christmas Episodes

‘Coronation Street’ bosses have revealed what fans can expect from Carla Connor’s return to Weatherfield, which is set to take place this Christmas.

After a year and a half away, Alison King’s ‘Corrie’ character will arrive back on t’cobbles when Aidan Connor asks for help with the factory.

Despite initially saying no, Carla makes a surprise return on Christmas Day, much to the delight of her family and friends.

And while Carla has been enjoying her time away from the Street, it soon becomes clear that she’s come back with a secret.

Teasing the storyline, Alison King said: “She is at a stage where she is starting to think about life and family, her secret is making her take stock.

“In the past two years she has acquired a family that she didn’t know she had.

“Prior to that she was a bit of a lone wolf, she had people like Michelle around her but suddenly she had a family that she does really care about, they mean a lot to her.”

Of course, not everyone will be happy to see Carla back. Yes, we mean Tracy Barlow.

Carla’s emotional exit aired in May 2016” alt=”Carla’s emotional exit aired in May 2016” data-credit=”ITV Pictures” data-portal-copyright=”ITV Pictures” data-provider=”Other” data-provider-asset-id=”” data-has-syndication-rights=”false”>

There is a great scene in the pub when Carla has her back to Tracy so she doesn’t see her but she hears her voice and she makes a classic Tracy remark and Carla gives her a great one line repost and walks off,” Alison said. “Carla has no desire to revisit that old rivalry, she doesn’t have the time for it anymore.”

Alison’s return was confirmed by soap bosses back in August, with producer Kate Oates stating that she wanted to “break new ground” with the character.

“I didn’t want to put her on that familiar cycle of self-destruction, recovery, followed by more self-destruction,” she said. “What we’ll have instead are these two strong Connor women – Carla and Michelle – on opposing sides and in conflict for a change.”
